Raul "Detroit" Olivarez

Raul Olivarez, 70, of Toledo, OH passed away at home on Monday, May 15, 2023. Raul was born in Port Lavaca, TX on July 1, 1952 to Juanita Olivarez and Toribio Olivarez. He graduated from Edward D. Libbey High School in June of 1971.

Raul married Julia Gonzales of 31 years, and together they had 7 children, Miguel (Kristin) Olivarez, Monica (Javier) Olivarez, Leo Olivarez, Marisela (Harland) Olivarez, Rolondo Olivarez, Jose (Harley) Sifuentes and Victoria (De'Shawn) Sifuentes. He worked at La Jalasensci Mexican Groceries as a Truck Driver (15 years), The Andersons (10 years) and Hickory Farms (8 years) and he enjoyed participating in playing the lottery, watching football (Detroit Lions/Michigan) and most of all, his Tejano Music. Raul was also a proud grandfather to 28 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Raul is survived by his niece, Virginia Olivarez; his brother-in-laws, Ted (Elizabeth) Gonzales and Karr-el (Rosalinda) Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his mom, Juanita Olivarez; his father, Toribio Olivarez; his brothers, Domingo, Telesforo, Matilde, Benigno, Benito, Roberto; his sisters, Ernestine, Antonia, Aurora, Rita; and his closest nephew, Christopher "Chris" Olivarez.

A Celebration of Raul's Life will be held at his home on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 3 pm.
