Phyllis J. Smith, age 91, passed away peacefully January 2, 2021 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. She was born in Detroit Michigan to William and Marie Thomas June 10, 1929. She graduated from Miller High School in Detroit in 1947 and attended Wayne State University in 1948. The family moved to Toledo Ohio in 1949. She worked as a secretary for the Dale Funeral home and the Brookhaven Nursing Home briefly in the early 70's. She also sold beauty products for Avon. She was an accomplished pianist and gave piano lessons to many people. She was married to Louis Smith Sr for 25 years, who passed away in 2010, and raised 4 children whom she dearly loved. Phyllis was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1975 and was a faithful servant of Jehovah. She attended the West Central, Central, and Park congregations. She played the piano years ago for the congregation meetings while attending the West Central Congregation. She loved to dress up and " go to the Mountain ", her reference to the congregation meetings, and participating in them. Friends enjoyed hearing her play the piano for them when they would stop in for a visit. Her favorite song to play for the family was " Trees". Even though classical music was her favorite, she loved " Doo Wop " music, and she liked watching the television show " The voice ". Everyone loved her sweet soft-spoken demeanor. she will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her son Lester Smith; Parents William and Marie Thomas; sisters Lourene Word, and Ethel Sellers; brothers Carl Thomas and Harold Thomas. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sister Mae Randall; sons Louis Smith Jr. and Lee Smith; daughter Selena Townsend; granddaughters Rosalyn Mack, Senta Smith, and Arielle Townsend; grandsons Michael Johnson and Andre Harding; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and spiritual daughter Linda Albert. The family would like to thank Denise Freeman, Linda Albert, and Paula Stubblefield for their love, support and care for Phyllis.
