Phyllis Krupp

Phyllis Krupp, a 50-year resident of Lorain, OH, died Monday, Feb. 1 at Heartland of Perrysburg in Perrysburg, OH. Her niece was by her side. Born Oct. 24, 1934 in Toledo, OH she graduated Woodward High School in 1952. She worked hard and played hard in her younger years holding such diverse jobs as a legal secretary by day and hostess at the Roman Gardens cocktail lounge by night. She moved to Lorain OH in the late “60s where she was proud to have worked at the American Ship Building Company as a union liaison. Later, she worked as a property manager and house painter with her late husband Jack Krupp, with whom she loved fishing out on lake Erie. In her retirement years, she worked as a caterer and housekeeper for the Knights of Columbus before moving to Oberlin Manner. There she spent her senior years helping organize weekly bingo nights and earning the name the cookie lady due to her prolific baking for everyone around her, including her friends at Mutt Jeffs where she was a Monday night regular. She returned to Toledo last year after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer so her family could provide support for her. While she was never able to pursue her dream of higher education, she was an avid reader she became an expert crossword puzzler and trivia buff as well as a lover of classic films, music and the arts. She loved being social, enjoyed going on casino trips and spending time with her family in Toledo. While she prided herself on her red-headed Irish Scorpio temper, she cared about people deeply and was loved by the many who discovered her generous and loving heart beneath her fiery exterior! She will be missed dearly! She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Oblinger, and niece, Lesa Ricci, both of Toledo. She is preceded in death by her father, George Walsh, her mother, Mildred Turner, and sister, Erma Jean Walsh. There will be a memorial service at Oberlin Manner, 1220 W 37th St, Lorain, OH on Sunday, March 13 at 1pm. All are welcome. Her ashes will then be interned at the family plot at Toledo Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions for her grave marker will be gratefully accepted.
