Obituary

Phyllis Weiker Gogel was born in Toledo, Ohio, on November 26, 1927, to Walter W. and Florence (Ullrich) Weiker. She grew up in the Old Orchard neighborhood, where she attended Old Orchard School. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School in 1945, she attended the University of Toledo, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Phyllis married Glen L. Gogel on June 29, 1957, and they built the life together in Perrysburg, Ohio. Glen passed away in 2009, and their son, Mark William Gogel, passed away in 2013.

Phyllis and Glen loved animals and took in many stray dogs and cats over the years. Phyllis was a proud charter member of the Wood County Humane Society. She enjoyed the outdoors and was also a longtime member of The Toledo Area Metroparks, participating in the Autumn Adventure walks every year from their inception. She also enjoyed membership with Friends of the Wood County Parks.

An avid walker, Phyllis could be seen walking all over Perrysburg in every kind of weather. She enjoyed swimming laps daily at Fort Meigs YMCA (and spent plenty of time in their fitness center as well). She was also a member of the Maumee Valley Volkssporters for many years.

Phyllis belonged to the First Presbyterian Church in Perrysburg and had served as a member of Session. She was also on the board of Perrysburg Christians United and was a volunteer at its Food Pantry. In the 1980's Phyllis served as a volunteer EMT with Perrysburg Township EMS.

Phyllis is survived by her two grandchildren, Zachary Grant (Shannon) Gogel, of Cape Coral, Florida, and Gabrielle Lauren Gogel, of Richmond, Virginia, and her great-grandchildren, Abigail Grace and Marcus Allen Gogel.

In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Weiker (James) Waffle, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 11:00 am, at First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg, 200 E 2nd St, Perrysburg, OH 43551.

Memorial donations are suggested to Wood County Humane Society or First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg.
