Phyllis Dunbar peacefully transitioned on July 27, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Devoted family, friends and her faith in Jesus were her support until the Lord called her home. She graduated from Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School in 1981 and from the University of Toledo in 1984. She was employed at Medical Mutual of Ohio and later continued her career at ProMedica until her until her passing. Phyllis was a great woman of faith and worshipped at Walk the Word Ministry. There she served faithfully as a greeter, was active in the Women’s Ministry and helped organize the Ask Me Anything (“AMA”) Table. She was also a member and Committee Chairperson of Cotillion with The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Incorporated. Phyllis is preceded in death by her grandmother, Ollie Mae Holmes (“Ma Molly”), her father, James Edward Dunbar (“Ed”) and brother-in-law, Tryphosa Hill (“Try”). She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Elizabeth Dunbar, sister, Janice Dunbar-Hill, brother, Anthony Dunbar (Rhonda), two nieces she lovingly adored, Jacqueline Dunbar and Taelor Hill, life-long friend, Angela Allen-Bridges, sister-in-Christ, Patricia Turner (“Mama Pat”), close friend, Ruth Ashford, and a host of other relatives and friends. Phyllis was a beautiful daughter, sister, aunt and friend that enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to travel, socialize, exercise and shop. Her loving spirit, diva style, funny sense of humor, and beautiful smile will be missed by many. The Memorial Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, August 14 at United Missionary Baptist Church, 2705 Monroe Street, Toledo, OH 43606.
