Otto H. Hammond, Jr.

February 27, 1972 — September 4, 2021

Otto Harold Hammond, Jr., 49, of Toledo passed away September 4th at his place of residence. Survived by his children Otto Hammond 3rd, Jeff (Courtney) Hammond, Cierra Hammond, and Christopher Hammond, his sisters Christine (Jonathan) Kraft and Sarah (Brannon) Rocap, and his brother Michael (Amanda) Hammond. Preceded in death by his parents Garnet Peace and Otto Hammond, Sr. and sister, Michelle Jewell. Otto’s wishes were to be cremated; the family will be holding a private memorial. Otto had balls. Great big sacs of bravery, selflessness, sacrifice, and humor. He loved to spend time in the great outdoors hunting, camping, fishing, and just hanging out with family and friends, grilling out and having a bonfire. Otto, jack of all trades, master of none, was a stubborn man that loved fiercely, lived hard, worked harder, and never gave up, no matter how futile the cause. The Eagles even wrote a song for him, “Desparate Otto” (had to toss that in there bro, it was Michelle’s idea). Guns, knives, blunt force trauma, or even a broken neck couldn’t take him out. Maybe he gave so much of his heart to family and friends and even strangers on the street that he didn’t have enough left for himself and God said to him “your journey is complete, you may rest now.” Or maybe he just couldn’t handle the stress of watching Michigan get slaughtered by Ohio State another year, so he decided to duck out early. Either way, he won’t get out of swimming for their loss this year (we’ll sprinkle a few of his ashes in the toilet on game day). We love you daddio, big brother, boss, uncle, friend, and big, beautiful, glorious lunatic. Your spirit will live on.
