Mina L. (Long) Briggs went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 9, 2025. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas Briggs; children, Laura (Chris) Henthorn and Tommy (Marianne) Briggs; grandchildren, Anna, Olivia, Preston, Gibson, Gannon, Gabriel and Evalyse; and great-grandchildren, Leon, Aaliyah, Maera and Magnolia. She was preceded in death by her parents, 9 siblings, and granddaughter, Emily.
Mina was born on November 24, 1939, to Gussie and Jackson Long in Starford, PA. As a child she suffered from Rheumatic Fever which affected her health for the rest of her life. Nonetheless, she was an active and vibrant person. In 1964 she married the love of her life, Thomas Briggs. They had two children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mina loved her family, both immediate and extended, and was devoted to them. In her own words, her greatest joys in life were “being a child of the Lord, my husband’s wife, mother to my two children, a grandmother and great-grandmother.” She also rejoiced that she was able to lead both of her children to the Lord. Of her life she said, “I was blessed beyond measure.”
Mina was a woman of great faith who loved to serve in the church. She had the gift of hospitality and loved to cook and open her home to others. Over the years she and Tom hosted a number of foreign exchange students as well as others needing a home. She served as a surrogate “mom” to many others. Her and Tom’s door was always open, and a meal was ready for whomever stopped by.
In her later years, while living at The Sunset House, she continued to minister, pray with others and share her love of Jesus. She was a steadfast prayer warrior and had a true love for all those who knew her.
Her Celebration of Life service will be held at Gateway Baptist Church, 6047 Dorr St., Toledo, on Saturday, November 15th. Visitation will be from 10-11 am with the service following at 11 am.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Sunset House for the loving care they provided for Mina. Those wishing to donate in Mina’s memory are asked to consider giving to The Sunset House.
