Mike passed away on Friday April 24, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg at the age of 81. He was born at Toledo Hospital to Nan and Floyd. He graduated from Whitmer High School in 1962.
Mike had many jobs until he was accepted into the Toledo Fire Department in 1975. He was placed at Station 7 for 25 years and he absolutely loved being so busy there. He later went to Station 24 in Point Place where he lived with his wife, Denise West (née, Stokes), and son, Nick West. Unfortunately on one emergency run he was hurt and had to retire in 2004. Also before being hurt, he worked at Toledo Speedway putting out fires as a fire fighter. He enjoyed working there as well. During his time on the department, he was one of the first to work on the hazardous materials crew which he found very interesting and rewarding. Mike was awarded the BRAVE Award for his actions above and beyond the call of duty and received a Certificate of Appreciation outstanding service to his fellow man during a fire.
Mike loved many things like camping, fishing and most of all spending time with his wife, son and dog, as well as going out to eat with friends. In the past, he enjoyed racing motor cycles.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nan Chisam; step father, Silas Chisam; father, Floyd West; brother, Lee Chisam; and sisters, Sally Haynes and June Cook.
Mike is survived by his wife, Dee; son, Nick; grandson, Maddon Zawodny; nieces, Leanna Nalepa and family, Roni Farabee and Sally J. Robinson; nephews, Keith Hobson and family, and Mike Hayes.
