Merlin "Pete" Zunk

February 18, 1933 — November 12, 2021

Pete Zunk, 88, of Toledo, OH, passed away Friday, November 12,2021 in the house of Angels; Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born February 18, 1933 to August and Grace Zunk. He was a graduate of Waite High School. He served in the United States Army. He worked for the City of Toledo for 25 years, retiring as Chief Building Inspector. He was a member of German American Festival Society, Men’s Toledo Swiss Society, Bavarian Sports Club, Life Member Riverview Yacht Club and St. Mark Lutheran Church. On April 18, 1953, he married JoAnn Keeley and together they raised five children. Pete was a proud union carpenter, a master at his trade, and built many homes, including their last two. He loved family, friends, and had many stories to tell. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, JoAnn Zunk; children, Cindy (Aryan) Mooss, Sue (David) Baumhower, Joe (Kay Ball) Zunk, Tom (Cindy) Zunk and Terry (Joan) Zunk; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with Mia Rae on the way; sisters, Janet Buschmann, Marilyn Zunk, and Judy (Jim) Crawford; sisters-in-law, Nancy Sedlak and Carol Keeley. Pete is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Geraldine (Clem) Przyojski, Lyle (Marcie) Zunk, Leland (Joanne) Zunk, Donna (Gene) Siebenaler, and Gloria (Dick) Soncrant; brothers-in-law, Bob Keeley and Bill Sedlak; and grandson, Jeremy Baumhower. Funeral Services will be held, Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Rd, Toledo, OH 43605 at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests starting at 10 a.m. in the church lobby prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider St. Mark Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
