Mary E. Wiitala

Mary Ellen Wiitala aka “Miss Mary" escaped the bounds of this earth on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Walter Wiitala; and mother, Liivi (Laidvee) Wiitala. Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, Jeff Vanderhorst. Mary is also survived by her brothers, Matt Wiitala (Jeri Wiitala), Daniel Wiitala (Debby Muskovitch); sisters, Helen Bernson (John Pikerill), Shirley McMarlin, Debra Keyes, Linda Wiitala (Casey Cavanaugh); as well as many adoring and loving nieces and nephews. Mary worked in the Healthcare field as an Occupational Therapist as well as in the Toledo Public School system for many years. If you were fortunate enough to have Mary as a Therapist you were indeed very lucky. Mary was the kindest, most compassionate, loving, caring person both in her professional and private life as well. In spite of outward appearances Mary had a years long struggle with depression and anxiety which ultimately took her life. Per Mary’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services at this time.
