Mary Catherine Wells

Mary Catherine Wells, 77, of Monclova, Ohio, passed away at home on September 3, 2026, with her beloved husband, Jack, by her side, just as he had been throughout their more than 60 years together.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on September 19, 1948, Mary lived a life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and caring nature touched countless lives and will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Shank; her brother, Donald Shank; and her infant son, Bryan Wells.

She is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband of more than 60 years, Leonard "Jack" Wells, Jr. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and memories. She is also survived by her children, Brenda Wells, Jack (Michelle) Wells, and Jill Dahmer; her grandchildren, Tyler (Stefani) Thompson, Hayley Thompson, Zachary Thompson, Luke Wells, Emily Wells, and Michael "Mikey" Dahmer; her sisters, Faye Burns, Norma Groth, Florence (Jim) Silverwood, Lydia Shank, and Evelyn (Tom) Ringenbach; her brothers, Roger (Becky) Shank and Kenneth (Cheryl) Shank; many beloved nieces and nephews; and her faithful furry companion, Chloe.

Mary graduated from Start High School in 1964. In 1965, she married Jack and began an adventure that would span more than six decades. During Jack's service in the United States Marine Corps, the young couple spent time stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Following his military service, they returned to Ohio, where they built their home and raised their family.

Mary returned to school and earned her Associate Degree in Medical Assisting in 1984. An exceptional student, she maintained straight A's throughout her studies and achieved a perfect score on her state board examination. She went on to enjoy a successful career in higher education, serving as Director of Education, Assistant Campus Director, and Director of Compliance before retiring in 2018.

Mary found joy in traveling and spending family vacations at Surfside Beach, a place that brought her countless memories. She was especially known for her love of crafting and the projects she shared with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other young family members. Many cherished memories were made around the table filled with craft supplies, laughter, and Mary's patient encouragement. She had a special love for hummingbirds and delighted in watching their graceful visits. She will be remembered for her loving heart, generosity, strength, and deep devotion to her family.

Although her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in the years they shared and the memories that will remain forever in their hearts.

In place of flowers, those wishing to honor Mary's memory may consider a contribution to support Jack as he navigates this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life honoring Mary's life and memory will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, on what would have been her 78th birthday, at the Monclova Community Center (Ottawa Room), 8115 Monclova Road, Monclova, Ohio 43542 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, share memories, and celebrate the love, kindness, and joy Mary brought to so many lives.

Mary's love lives on in the family she cherished, the lives she touched, and the countless memories that will forever bring smiles through tears. In honor of her love for hummingbirds, may each one that graces a garden or lingers nearby remind us of Mary. Though she is gone from our sight, her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return. ❤️
