Mary Shaffer

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary (Shamy) Shaffer. Mary passed away surrounded by her loving family at Flower Hospital, on October 23, 2024, at the age of 74. Mary was born on November 2nd, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, to parents Michael and Wanda Shamy.

Mary was a loving and devoted wife to Jim. They were married on December 30th, 1992, and spent every day for the next 32 years by each other's side. She enjoyed spending her summers with Jim, sitting on the dock by the water at Angel Cove Campground. Mary was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and a kick in the ass when we needed it. She also had a great love for animals and spent countless hours watching the birds outside her window in the bird feeder.

Everyone who met Mary felt her warmth and kindness.

Mary was Preceded in death by her father and mother, Michael and Wanda Shamy; older brother, Isaac “Ike” Shamy. She is survived by husband, James “Jim” Shaffer; children, Michael (Jill) Koskoski, David (Kristie) Shaffer, Daniel (Jessica) Shaffer, and Tina (Jay) Nowakowski; grandchildren, Gage (Shawna), Korey, Kayla, Camden, Averie, Cheyenne, Daniel Jr, Cody (Nicole), Kyle and Cassidy; her great-grandchildren, Codi, Lucas, Wesson, and Harley; older brother, Richard Shamy; and her furbaby, Bear.

A celebration of life will be held for Mary this spring (date to be announced at a later time).
