Kalmbach, age 88, passed away on Monday, May 12th at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg. She was born on February 15, 1926 to Ada (Holley) and William Brooks of Bowdon, Georgia. Six weeks later, William moved his family to Florida to pursue employment with the Florida East Coast Railway.   As a young war-bride, Mary migrated to Toledo, Ohio. For more than 60 years, she visited her southern family – keeping the ties strong. For Mary, vacations meant spending time with your loved ones.   She enjoyed making a home for her family and delighted them with special recipes of Tomato Soup Cake, Christmas Tree Bread and pan-fried muskrat.  Mary loved art projects, crocheting, and sewing. Many special friends received a “lace angel” from Mary over the years.   Children were the joy of Mary’s life. Her honored titles were Mom, Minx, Nana, Grandma, Grammy, Grandma Mary, Aunt Mary and Mary K. For many years, she devoted her life to her “church children” - as she affectionately called them, by teaching Sunday School, Childrens Church and directing the Childrens Choir.  She loved them as her own.   Left to cherish her memory are her children; Virginia “Ginny” (Stephen) Hopper, Frederich (Nena) Kalmbach, daughter-in-law Chang Kalmbach, grandchildren Robert Kalmbach, Kellie Peterson, Frederich Kalmbach II, Whitney Hopper, Elizabeth Stevens, David Kalmbach, William Kalmbach, Loverly Kalmbach, sister Dorothy “Dot” Chase, nine great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, her “church children,” special friends Linda Henry, Shawnee Sparks, Sue Deal and the loving care providers of Kingston.   In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband William, sons Richard and Robert, brothers William, Thomas, Harold and James Brooks.   A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 11 a.m. at Mainstreet Church, which is located at 705 North Main Street in Walbridge, Ohio. There will be time for visitation and lunch will follow.   Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Kidney Fund or the charity of the donors choice.   Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.toledocremation.com.
