In Loving Memory of Mary (Mattoni) Brennan 8/23/53 - 5/29/25
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary (Mattoni) Brennan, a cherished wife, mother and the eldest sister of her large family of six. Mary was the eldest daughter of Dr. John A. Mattoni and Gwen (Gallaher) Mattoni. She passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family after a long and difficult battle with cancer. A devoted wife and mother and adoring grandmother, Mary's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and joy. Her cheerful giggle will always be remembered by those who loved her.
She shared 50+ wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, William J. Brennan, a partnership built in deep affection, respect and unwavering support. Together, they raised two sons, whom she loved fiercely and supported with all her heart. Her greatest joy came in later years from spending time with her six grandchildren. To them she will always remain "Nonna".
Mary had a lifelong love of horses and was an accomplished Dressage rider, drawn to their grace and strength, she found great comfort in their presence. We will smile knowing Mary is reunited with her beloved horse, Fezick. She also enjoyed golf and travel, with Italy being her favorite destination, where she rekindled relationships with her distant, but welcoming Italian cousins.
Preceded in death by her father, Dr. John A. Mattoni M.D., she is survived by her mother, Gwen (Gallaher) Mattoni; husband of 50 years, William J. Brennan; children, Dr. Joseph P. Brennan DDS, (Julie) and Colin (Kathy) Brennan; and grandchildren, JJ., Joshua, Jonny, Ava, Jenna and Harper. She is also survived by her siblings, Chris (Greg) Peat, John (Leanne) Mattoni, Angela (Doug) Clayton, Martha (Tom) Moeler, Matt (Victoria) Mattoni, plus many nephews, nieces and cousins.
She will be cremated at the Cremation Society of Toledo in accordance with her wishes. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date, with friends and family to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Mary's memory, in appreciation of the compassionate care she received, especially from Lisa and Jessica.
