It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marissa Irene Teachout, 46, on May 7, 2025 at Genacross Wolf Creek Campus, in Holland, OH, after an ongoing battle with her health.
Marissa was born on August 2, 1978 in Lansing, MI. She grew up in Holt, MI, attended Holt Public Schools, then lived in the Lansing area until moving to Toledo, OH in 2011, to be closer to her mom.
Marissa was a loving mother of her two sons, Donovan and Dominic, both who were such a blessing to her, since she was told she couldn’t have children.
She loved listening to podcasts and watching scary and real-life movies. One of her favorites was Mr. Ballen “Stories of the Strange, Dark and Mysterious”. She was very artistic and loved tattoos, and hoped to open her own shop one day with Patrick. She had been working on a business degree with Colorado Technical University. Marissa loved all types of music and singing karaoke, so much that she had an app on her phone called Starmaker.
Marissa was a passionate, strong, intelligent and determined woman who loved with all her might. The number one thing that brought her fully alive were her boys, who she adored more than anything. And like her Mom and the rest of her family, she was extremely proud of her Irish heritage.
Those who knew Marissa, aka “Irish Princess”, will remember her for her beautiful blue eyes, her gorgeous smile, her vibrant magnetic personality and her great sense of humor. She was adored by her family from the moment she was born.
Marissa is deeply missed and survived by her beloved sons, Donovan Robert Bergey and Dominic Lee Bergey-Benjamin; devoted and loving fiance’, Patrick Cavanaugh, who was by her side continuously and unwavering for 8 years; and loving sisters, Tammy Niswander (fiance’ John) and Amy Lee Johnson Faulkner (husband, Scott). She is also survived by her nieces, Ashley, Samantha, Madison, Sarah and Sydney; nephew, Riley; grandmother, Marian Teachout; many cousins, aunts and uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews that will miss her so much.
Marissa was preceded in death by her mom, Deborah Joan McNamara-Teachout; dad, Floyd Teachout III; aunts, Renie VanDerBos, Brenda McNamara and Bambi Mc-Namara-Croke; uncles, Buddy McNamara and Randy Teachout; grandparents, Bud McNamara, Joan Greenshields, Bruce Greenshields, and Floyd Teachout Sr.; and cousins, Darin VanDerBos and Katie Rae Boyd.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful people of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, who took excellent care of Marissa through all of this. We would also like to thank the caring people at Genacross Wolf Creek.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Frances Park Pavilion, 2701 Moores River Dr. Lansing, MI 48911 to honor the life of Marissa.
