Marissa Ann Cox, 45, passed away unexpectedly in April of 2026. She was born on May 17, 1980 to Darlene Cox and Daniel Pennington in Toledo, Ohio.

She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Toledo and then pursued Paralegal studies at Kent State University. She spent many of her working years as a barista at Starbucks.

What Marissa loved most in life was being out in nature. She loved to walk through any park and you could often find her sitting under a willow tree reading a book. She loved to learn new things as was proven by the approximately 300 books she had in her apartment. When the weather turned cold, she loved to do any type of crafting. Her walls and tables were adorned by creations she had made. She also loved to exercise, especially yoga.

While Marissa valued her personal space and freedom, she never hesitated to help anyone, including a stranger, who needed assistance. She was a very spiritual, compassionate, and open-minded woman. Her best advice ever given was, ‘You can’t believe what you don’t believe. Live your life based on what you truly believe spiritually while making sure you don’t hurt anyone while you are living that life.’

Marissa is survived by her immediate family: mother, Darlene Cox; father, Daniel Pennington; sister, Anna Pennington; aunt, Kathy (Greg) Iott; and cousins, Kelly (Ryan) Harrigan and family; Tracy (Dana) Pennington; and Buddy Pennington. She also had many aunts, uncles, and cousins in her extended family that will never be forgotten.
