Marion B. Stokes

February 26, 1929 — January 23, 2023

On Monday, January 23, 2023, Marion Beatrice Stokes departed this life. She was born on February 26, 1929, one of three children born to the union of DeWitt and Frances Stokes. A sister, Yvonne Adele, brother, Donald Wayman, as well as, both parents DeWitt and Francis preceded her in death.


Marion was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Paducah, Kentucky. She received an Associate’s degree from Winston-Salem State University. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Kentucky State College; It was there she became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She earned a Master of Science degree in Education from Indiana State University. Her teaching career spanned 30 years in the Toledo, Ohio grammar school system.


In 1971, Marion married James Billups of Toledo, whom also preceded her in death.


Marion was a faithful member of Braden United Methodist Church in Toledo for over 40 years.


Marion adored animals of the four-legged kind and, often wished she had become a veterinarian.


She leaves to cherish her memories a nephew Val, niece-in-law Sharlene, grand-nephew Quentin, relatives: (Bailey, Jagoe, Stokes, Sullivan, Williams), friends, and students.


The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to the nurses and caregivers of Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Traditions at West Park Place. Your kindness and care will be forever remembered.


Internment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah, Kentucky.
