Mariam Turner

April 20, 1925 — May 4, 2013

Mariam Lucille Turner, a resident of Bowling Green since 1962, passed away on May 4, 2013 at Bridge Hospice. She was born April 20, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Troy and Stella (Klingel) Pratt. In 1946 she married Virgil Turner, who passed away in 1984. Mariam is survived by her children Diane (David) Reed of Clio, MI, Dean (Mary Ann) Turner of Rome, GA, and Kim (Ian) Young of Bowling Green, OH; her grandchildren Greg (Julee) Reed, John (Alison) Reed, Brian Turner, Katy Turner, Camille Casado and Joseph Young; her great-grandson Christopher Reed, her sisters-in-law Doris and Mary, and by nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Helen Dmytryka of Toledo, OH, and her sister-in-law Betty Webb. Mariam worked as a bookkeeper after her graduation from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, until her retirement 50 years later. In Bowling Green she was employed for many years by BG Lincoln Mercury, then by Mid Am/Sky Bank, and fondly remembered her co-workers there. After her retirement, she traveled in Europe, the US, and the Caribbean. She was always an active part of a church congregation wherever she lived. In 1966 she joined First Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green, where she remained a member until her death. She loved singing in the choir and acted as music librarian for many years, as well as participating in Presbyterian Women and teaching Sunday School. An avid reader, she passed her love of books on to her children and grandchildren. She was unfailingly kind and generous, and will be greatly missed by those who were privileged to know her. Donations in her memory may be made to the Wood County Public Librarys “Buy a Book” campaign, or to the music program at First Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green on May 17 at 11 am
