Marguerite S. Terrill

July 27, 1921 — May 13, 2013

Marguerite Sarah Wolcott Terrill passed away peacefully on May 13, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Marguerite was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 27, 1921, to Marguerite (Huttinger) and Claude Wolcott. Her family moved to Toledo in 1926. She lived the last 18 years at the Wyndham on Glendale Avenue. Marguerite attended Harvard Elementary, DeVilbiss High School and Davis Business College. She was a positive, generous, and strong woman who lived each day to the fullest. From an early age, Marguerite had a deep love of horses, and she often enjoyed trail rides in her youth.Marguerite married her high school sweetheart, William Lewis Terrill, in 1941. While Bill served in the South Pacific during WWII, Marguerite worked at the Ford Motor Willow Run Bomber Plant, inspecting B-24 bomber planes. While Marguerites children were young, she was a district manager for Coppercraft Guild. Later, she worked as a telephone operator for Owens Illinois, and from 1959-1982, as an executive receptionist, travel and arts coordinator at Toledo Edison. For ten years after retirement, Marguerite worked part-time at Toledo Edison, at Parkcrest Optical, and also for Dr. Fred Hiss. In addition to being an extraordinarily loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marguerite made beautiful ceramics and flower arrangements, and she loved entertaining guests at her home. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening, and golfing with her husband and son. Marguerite traveled to many U.S. cities, and throughout Europe and Quebec with her daughter. Marguerite had two great losses in her later years, those of her husband in 1991, and of her son, Robert Lewis Terrill in 1994. She was ardently devoted to them, especially during their extended illnesses. Marguerite cared for the underserved throughout her life, and made regular contributions to Save the Children, Habitat for Humanity, ASPCA, the Toledo Animal Shelter, and Save-A-Pet. She belonged to the Church of St. Andrew, St. Lukes Auxiliary, the Elks of Maumee, Towne Club, and the Toledo Zoo. Marguerite rescued several dogs. Her first Jack Russell, “Libby,” was a therapy dog who accompanied her on visits to Hospice patients. Marguerite is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Marguerite Mary Terrill; grandson, Rafael Leland Terrill-Leathers; great-grandchildren: Adrianna, Ashton, Jasmine and Isabelle, all residing in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She is also survived by her niece, Anina Myint; nephew, Aaron Fullagar; niece Rae Terrill McClow; and nephew, William A. Terrill. Additionally, she is survived by her cherished friends and Wyndham neighbors. Marguerites sister, Claudia Fullagar, predeceased her. Marguerites family and friends will dearly miss her wonderful smiles, her warm hospitality, and her extraordinary zest for life.A celebration of Marguerites life will be held at the Church of St. Andrew at 3620 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Visitation begins at 11 a.m.; memorial service at noon; and a luncheon to follow immediately at the church. On-line condolences may be shared with the family at toledocremation.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toledo Animal Shelter, Save-A-Pet, or a charity of the donors choice.
