Margot Lightfoot

November 28, 1939 — June 23, 2023

Margot was born in Frankfurt, Germany during WWII. After the war, Spain took in German kids as a goodwill gesture. Her mother asked her if she wanted to go, but told her that she would have to go alone for the year-long journey. Margot agreed. She was nine years old when she boarded a train with other German kids she did not know. She stayed with a wealthy Spanish family, where she learned Spanish. Later, when she was back in school in Germany, she also learned English.

Margot moved to the United States after meeting her first husband, Duane Pflanzer. She later earned a RN associate degree from Owens Community College. She worked at MCO for 20 years. She had many friends there, but her two closest friends were Betty Brown and Mike Elchisco. They would go many places together including Las Vegas.

Some of Margot’s interests included art, painting with watercolors, drawing with colored pencils, photography, knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening & flying. She also had a private pilot’s license. Margot loved the forests & enjoyed being outdoors. She especially loved the Blackwood forest in Germany where her mother was from. Traveling the world brought Margot joy. Some of the places she spent time in were Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Italy, Mexico and Egypt. For a time, she also enjoyed driving her 1979 white Corvette stick shift with mag wheels.

She was married and divorced twice, from Duane Pflanzer and Jimmie Lightfoot.

Margot kept in touch with many of her relatives back in Germany. She was especially close to her cousin Gisela, her husband Georg and their daughter Silvia. When Margot got sick in January, Silvia called almost every single weekend to check on her status.

Margot was preceded in death by her parents, Josef Friesenhahn & Hedwig (Saum) Friesenhahn and brother, Gunter (Maria) Friesenhahn. Surviving are sister, Ilse Ray; children, Kim (Dan) Shea, Claudia (Don) Lightfoot-Wagoner and Muna Lightfoot; grandchildren, Nicki (Sean) McKenzie and Rachel (Ryan) Ipsaro; great grandchildren, Scotty & Matthew McKenzie and Riley Ipsaro. She also leaves behind her beloved Chihuahua, Chi Chi.

She did not want any funeral services.

Donations in her name may be made to WGTV, your favorite local humane society or the Sierra Club.
