Margo was born to Eleanor (Wefer) Hall and Fred H. Hall on February 4, 1956. She died following a three-year battle with cancer on October 27, 2025. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Alan Leininger; her mother; her sister, Leslie Watza (Rick); her son, Kevin Leininger (Tess); and her grand-daughters, Matilda and Beatrix Leininger. Margo was predeceased by her father and her eldest son, Andrew Leininger.
Margo was raised in Toledo, attending Keyser Elementary School. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1974 and continued her education at Miami University, earning a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) in business in 1978. She was then employed by the former Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a Market Analyst, retiring to become a full-time mother and “chronic volunteer” following the birth of her first son, Andrew.
On the volunteer front, Margo was an organizer for the Northwest Ohio Relay for Life, an annual fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. She also participated as a liaison with the Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery program. She taught Sunday School for 23 years and was an Elder at Maumee First Presbyterian Church where she also sat on numerous committees. She served as an academic advisor to Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Toledo. She also tutored reading at Wayne Trail School as part of their Read and Relate program. Volunteering did not prevent Margo from supporting her children in their extracurricular activities or their education. She seldom missed her sons’ concert performances or sporting events. Train trips to Chicago museums, visits to area zoos, aquariums, and other educational venues provided the boys with fun and cultural experiences. She was a terrific mom.
Margo loved being at her family’s cabin on Black Lake in northern lower Michigan, spending her summers there while growing up and introducing her boys to that life as an adult. Boating, skiing, and fishing were things her father taught her to love and things that she passed on to her children. Margo came to enjoy watching baseball while dating her future husband and took up golf at the suggestion of her mother who was taking lessons as a beginner herself. She grew to be a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers. She played golf, first as a member of Brandywine Country Club, then at Heather Downs Country Club where she also organized inter-club play, and most recently as a member of Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green. Margo was a voracious reader of books. If she enjoyed a story, she would seek out and consume any title written by the author. There was always a message on the phone from the library saying her book was in.
Margo was a beautiful, intelligent, and talented human being. Her resilience over the past three years was evident, taking her treatment in stride, while trying to enjoy life’s simple pleasures that were no longer so simple. Margo will be dearly missed by her family, her friends, and anyone who had the opportunity to interact with her in a meeting, on a committee, in the bleachers, or on the course.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, November 15 at First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Broadway Street, Maumee OH, 43537. A luncheon will follow in The Fellowship Hall where you may meet with family and friends, sharing stories of your experiences with Margo.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the church, to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, to The American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.
