Luann K. Wendel

Luann was born in Blissfield, Michigan, to her loving parents, Russell and Francis DeGroff. From an early age, she had a heart for service, beginning as a candy striper volunteer at Flower Hospital. She later worked for Sharon Manufacturing in Lambertville, Michigan.

Luann brought comfort to many as a cook at the Sodbuster Saloon in Sylvania, Ohio, where she became known for her homemade soups and delicious meals. For nearly 20 years, she served as the manager of Two Men and a Truck in Toledo, Ohio, under the ownership of Duane and Rosemary Sell. There, she led with strength and heart — hiring movers, running a fleet, and working with countless local businesses and radio stations. She even recruited some of her crew through the University of Toledo.

More than anything, Luann was a devoted and loving mother to her six boys. Her life revolved around caring for her family and friends, always putting others before herself.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Frances DeGroff; her brother, Dennis DeGroff; baby sister, Loretta Beth DeGroff; her beloved son, Ryan Charles Wendel; and sweet granddaughter, Taylor Marie Wendel.

Luann is survived by her sons, Scott (Dawn) Wendel, Darren Wendel, Ross Wendel, Cory (Michelle) Wendel, and Reed Wendel; her siblings, Gregory (Celeste) DeGroff and Kathy Quigley; her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends who were like family.

Luann will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.

A gathering will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 4930 Flanders Road, Sylvania, Ohio 43623 from 11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon, and a celebration of life luncheon immediately afterward.

The family wishes to thank all of Luann’s friends and extended family for filling her 82 years with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

The Cremation Society of Toledo is assisting Luann's family with arrangements.
