Lorna Jane Deen

Lorna Jane (Von Ewegen) Deen, age 88, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away suddenly, Thursday, September 7, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital, due to complications from a fall at home.

Lorna was born on December 25, 1934, in Perrysburg, Ohio, to Gilbert, Jr. and Bernice (Goodman) Von Ewegen. Lorna graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1952. She retired from Sears after working for 25 years in the receiving department. Lorna was a fabulous cook and always tried to please the palates of her family at holiday meals. She was also a dog lover and two of her dogs were rescues. She enjoyed traveling, camping, shopping, slot machines and craft shows.

Lorna met her beloved husband, Olan Deen, on a blind date and they married three months later, in the Fort Jackson army chapel, in Columbia, South Carolina, on September 4, 1954. They were married for 62 years prior to his death, in 2016.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lorna was preceded in death by her sisters, Ila Walczak and Arlene Eckel, half-brother, John Von Ewegen; son, Gary Deen, and son-in-law, Robert Grose. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cheryl (Randall) Mulinix, and Joanne Grose, daughter-in-law, Cathy Deen; grandchildren Mark (Kelly) Mendoza, Laura (Steven) Toda, Aaron (Amanda) Deen, David Grose, Nicole Grose and Timothy Grose; and great-grandchildren Colson and Ellie Deen.

To honor her wishes, she was cremated. Her remains, along with those of her husband, will be interred in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in a private family ceremony.
