Lois C. Sally Lowe

Lois Sally C. Lowe, age 89, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away peacefully on July 31, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania. She was born to George N. Schoonmaker (former City Manager of Toledo) and Anna M. (Ott) Schoonmaker in Toledo, Ohio on September 2, 1925. Sally was a proud 1943 graduate of Woodward High School. She went on to graduate from Bethany College in West Virginia, and received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She was the first professional social worker at the Lutheran Childrens Home, pioneering the program there. She was a social worker with the Child and Family Services of Greater Toledo, later the Family Services of Greater Toledo, and she also supervised the county adoption agency at the Miami Childrens Home in Maumee. Sally was a case worker for the East Center for Community Health, during which time she also served with the Alzheimers Association, pioneering the adult services program and leading workshops for caregivers. Also during this time she taught at Lourdes College in the Gerontology Department. Sally finished her career at UNISON Mental Health Services where she fully retired at the age of 82. She was a long time resident of Waterville, Ohio, where she has many friends at Zion Lutheran Church. Sally is survived by her daughter, Katherine Lowe (Ronald Gatton, Jr.); sister-in-law, Sue (James) Schoonmaker; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are members of her spiritual family at Zion Lutheran Church, and all of her friends that she considered family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John H. Lowe; brothers, Gus Schoonmaker and James Schoonmaker; and sister, Marilyn Ryan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 4:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, 22 N. Second Street, Waterville, OH 43566. The family suggests any memorial tributes be made to the Alzheimers Association, Zion Lutheran Church, or Ebeid Promedica Hospice.
