Lewis Irwin McLaughlin, age 93, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 29, 2026, at Franciscan Care Center, in Sylvania, Ohio, by family & loved ones.

He was born on August 4, 1933 in Northwood, Ohio, to Frank and Laura (Patrick) McLaughlin. Lewis graduated from Olney High School, in Northwood, Ohio, and worked at Sun Oil Refinery in Oregon, Ohio, for 40 years before retiring. Lewis was a veteran and served in the United States Army. Most people in Lewis’ life knew him as “Bud.”

In Bud’s youth, he loved motorcycles, basketball and cars. In Bud’s retirement he enjoyed working at the Home Depot. Bud will be most remembered for his humor, kindness and giving to others.

Lewis is survived by his 3 children, Laura (the late Louis) DeGross, of Vermillion, Ohio, Heidi (Christopher) Betz, of Sand Creek, Michigan, and Daniel McLaughlin, of Toledo, Ohio.

Lewis is survived by 12 grandchildren, Alexander DeGross, MaryBeth (Matthew) Merzweiler, Annie (Riley) Davis, Patrick DeGross, Nathan (Kendra) Betz, Brooke (Matthew) Bogdanski, Erin (Collin) Dussel, Natalie (Wade) Wooley, Monica Betz, Seth (Elle) McLaughlin, Shayla McLaughlin, Daniell McLaughlin.

Lewis is survived by 17 great-grandchildren, Winifred DeGross, Reagan & Ezra McLaughlin, Liam Merzweiler, Louise & Basil Davis, Christopher & Collins & John Betz, Madelynn & Michael & Maren Bogdanski, Grace & Hollyn & Josiah Wooley, Evelynn Nichols, & Bowen McLaughlin.

Lewis was preceded in death by his spouse of 60 years, MaryAnn McLaughlin; his mother and father; sister, Margaret; and son-in-law, Louis DeGross(husband of Laura DeGross).

Lewis will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

There will be no public gathering to honor Lewis at this time. Immediate family have elected to meet privately.
