Lewis Clay Altfather -dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend- passed away in his sleep at the age of 93, on Saturday, February 3,2024.
Lewis was born to Lewis Frederick and Helen (Miller) Altfather on November 30, 1930. He graduated from Berlin Brothervalleys High School in 1948. At age 19 he met his wife, Doretha Jane (Mckenzie) from Meyersdale, PA, and became life partners on October 6, 1950.
He was inducted by the United States Army on July 17, 1952 where he served two years in Germany.
His first daughter born was Connie Jane and later his second daughter born was Carol Diann.
Through the years, Lewis enjoyed the simple things in life. Always tinkering with building something, due to his love for carpentry. He loved nature and taking walks in the woods, giving a home to many animals in his life. Spending time with family, taking vacations and summers with his two granddaughters fulfilled his desire to teach them life’s lessons. He was a man of many words, but a true believer in wisdom.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Jane; their daughters, Connie and Carol (Steven); granddaughter, Jeanette; grandson, Kyle; brother, Elmer C. of Berlin; and sister, Marilyn of Somerset, and their families and friends.
Even at the end of his life he found a way to smile and laugh at times.
We love you dad. Go on your way to be with God and be reunited with your loved ones.
Until we meet again.
