Lena Revel Horvath

October 8, 1932 — May 17, 2018

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Mom (Lena) left us, and this world on Thursday , May 17th , to go run the show “someplace else”. LORD look out! Her independence and stubbornness were traits that we loved most about her, and disliked most about her at times, but can be evidenced in every one of her five children. Mom was born Lena Revel Burkhart in Harland County, Kentucky in the small mining camp of Crummies Creek , to Perry Burkhart and Lillie Mae (Robbins) Burkhart. She completed only elementary school as her father thought that was all the education a woman would need. After the passing of her mother when she was fourteen, mom stayed with her father and stepmother Myrtle, until meeting and marrying Claude William Fox (C.W.) on Jan.25th,1949. After relocating to Toledo, Ohio shortly after, to secure factory work rather than continue to live a miners life, they raised five, independent stubborn children. Mom would stay in the Toledo area until her passing, with her final residence in Northwood Ohio. She worked for many years for Jobst Institute as a seamstress making surgical garments and had much pride in her work, retiring in 1992. Retirement for mom was bittersweet , as with a lot of single people, work was a large part of her social interaction. Adjusting to days alone required some special help from some of her favorite friends. Moms favorite friends were her many dogs she had by her side over the years. At times they would be the only thing she talked to except a phone call, so her love , appreciation, and devotion to them ran deep. Her last best friends were Peco and Cheetah. Peco is hanging out with her son John now, and Cheetah left her one week earlier to go ahead and get things ready for them. Now thats devotion! WHAT A PAL, HUH??? Shopping was her favorite getting out activity, and it didnt matter where, from the mall, to Kmart, or the goodwill, as long as it was with her best friend , daughter Ronda. Shopping and maybe a burger on the way home, and she was happy, her day complete! A simple woman she was. And yes, 8 out of 10 times it was the salvation army or goodwill ! Country/ Western and Bluegrass music were her favorites, as her father and grandfather would sit and pick guitar and banjo on their porch in the mountains. Mom said the more “shine” they drank, the better they played, and always seemed “happier” too. On some of our special occasions, if we could get her “in the spirit” (Milwaukees Best) Mom would show us some of her “mountain clogging” , and it was a hoot! Those memories are truly cherished and we are grateful to have seen her in action. So lively she could be, all 76 pounds of her. Moms greatest enjoyment in life was her family, and all visits from daughters, sons, grandkids and great grandchildren were truly treasured. She loved her family more than she had words for, and safe to say, vice/versa. She married and later divorced Ron Horvath, who preceded her in death, as did her first husband Claude (C.W.) Fox. Also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Delmer, Willie, and Earl, and sisters Alice and Dewey Mae. She is survived by children; Claudetta Fox, Marilyn Reckner (Chuck), Paul D. Fox Sr. (Ann), Ronda Lease (Dana), and John Fox (Lorri), twelve grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. Celebration Of Life is planned for family and friends for her birthday. The family would like to offer deepest thanks to special friend Daisy and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the help and loving care given Mom and family.
