Lawrence Eugene Przeslawski, age 91, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024 at StoryPoint Waterville. He was born to the late Steve Perry and Lottie Lewandowski-Przeslawski on August 23, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio.
Larry grew up in Toledo and attended Macomber High School until he made the decision to pursue his duties as a Merchant Marine. Once eligible, he transferred to the Army where he proudly served in Korea. Once Larry settled back home, he met the love of his life, Doris Shurtz and they eventually married on January 9, 1954, in Trilby.
Larry started his career at Toledo Edison as a lineman but, as before with his military service, felt a calling within to explore law enforcement. In 1958, he began his career at Toledo Police Department until his retirement as rank of detective sergeant in 1989. Larry proved to be an incredible marksman during his career. As President of the Toledo Police Revolver Club, he was sought out by the FBI Academy in Quantico to attend a 12-week program. He excelled above his peers and scored perfect marks on the tactical revolver course, which was a rare feat. Larry was indicted into the FBI National Academy Possible Club upon completion of his training and was considered a master marksman through the FBI’s firearms academy. For his devotion to his duty at the Toledo PD, he was awarded the Command Officer of the Year.
When Larry wasn’t devoting life to his community, he enjoyed the time with his family; fishing in the younger years and after the introduction to golf by his son, David, developed a huge fondness for the sport and played every opportunity that arose.
In 1993, Larry and Doris moved to the Plantation at Leesburg in Florida. This time was spent sharing leisurely moments with their new community and some travel, which included two Alaskan cruises. After 18 years, they made the decision to move back to Toledo and be near their family. One specific moment that Larry held near and dear to his heart was traveling to Washington DC through the Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio. It was a gift which reflected his service to many throughout his life.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Doris C. Przeslawski; children, David (Donna) Przeslawski, Mark Przeslawski and Brian (Tammy) Przeslawski; grandchildren, Scott (Lorna) Przeslawski, April (Steve) Jacobsen and Kathleen (Brandon Segura) Przeslawski; great-grandchildren, Emmett Przeslawski, Jacob Jacobsen, Gavin Jacobsen, and Nolan Jacobsen. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Perry and George Lewandowski.
A private service will be held for the family. Memorial contributions in Larry’s name may be made to the Toledo Police Patrolmans’ Association, 1947 Franklin Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43604.
