Lawrence “Larry” Lee Moore, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in Sylvania, OH. Larry was born on March 10, 1954 to Richard and Margaret (Siebert) Moore in Malden, MO. At the age of three Larry was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. He was admitted to The Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO. He had a series of seven operations on his legs spaced almost evenly between the ages of three and 15. He had to relearn how to walk after each surgery. Because of his experiences, he became a life-long advocate for the rights of the disabled community. In 1972, he graduated from Assumption Catholic High School, East St. Louis, IL. Larry attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and then moved to California, where he received an Associate of Arts degree from MiraCosta College, Oceanside. He worked as a teaching assistant and created a computer-generated music program for the college’s music department. After several years living with family and friends, Larry returned to East St. Louis. In the 1990’s he was active online, hosting forums on Genie and Delphi Internet Services. It was through these forums that he met Lydia Bobash. Following three years of traveling between Illinois and Ohio, they were married on May 1, 1999 in Rossford, OH. In 2001, they both graduated from Healing Arts Institute, Perrysburg, as licensed massage therapists. From 2002 - 2008, they worked out of their own office in Perrysburg. Larry returned to school at Lourdes University, Sylvania, in 2010. During his studies in social work, he was a teacher and a support group leader for the Alzheimer’s Association. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) in Social Work in 2014. He was a member of Phi Alpha honor society for social work students and Theta Alpha Kappa national honor society for religious studies/theology. Larry was a licensed social worker in Ohio from 2014-2018. He was a past member of the National Association of Social Workers. Never one to stop learning, Larry studied life coaching from the Transformation Academy online. He received nine certifications in several coaching specializations. Larry created his own life coaching business, Learning in Light, and was working toward hosting coaching seminars when he became ill. Larry was a published writer and poet. He enjoyed classic Science-Fiction and Fantasy books/TV/movies and RPG-style games. He loved all genres of music and his favorite Rock band was YES. Larry cared about animals and was concerned for the environment. He was a past member of Greenpeace and a supporter of the Toledo Zoo’s species survival program. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his loving wife of 23 years, Lydia Moore; two aunts and several cousins. Also mourning his passing are special friends, Linda and Tony Szilagye; friends at the Residenz at Sylvania, and many friends from around the country. The family would like to thank the staff of Flower Hospital for the compassionate care they provided for Larry. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the family.
