Laurie Oneil, age 51, passed away after a long battle with breast cancer on June 1, 2022, in Toledo, Ohio. She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on April 5, 1971, to Vern and Helen (Lanning) Oneil. She was the second oldest of five siblings. She was known in life as a protective sister, devoted mother, and compassionate friend. She loved music, dancing, drinking coffee, puzzles, and was a great bowler. She was a dedicated and intelligent woman, earning her Associates in Computer Programming even after having two children. She worked hard, and always went above and beyond. She was also selfless, typically putting the needs of others before her own. Laurie came from Irish heritage and grew up in the Washington, DC area. She held a job on Andrews Airforce Base before joining the Army once she turned 18. She was proud of her roots, therefore aligned with her wishes, her ashes will be divided and spread equally in D.C. and Ireland. She had a lifelong struggle with mental illness, but always advocated for others to get the proper treatment. She was proud of the work she did as an employee at the Thomas M Wernert Center in Downtown Toledo. She made a difference in the lives of countless members and staff of the center, choosing to participate in events such as the NAMI Walk and the Heart and Soul dance. Laurie will be greatly missed by her family members as well as the friends she has made over the years. She is survived by her son Christopher (Anja) Salazar, daughters Kristina (Ronald Lindsay), Kristy, and Krista Salazar, and her partner Pedro Salazar. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael Oneil and Mother Helen Oneil.
