Laura Jean Chechak

February 9, 1948 — December 28, 2021

Laura Jean Chechak Laura Jean was born a true Texas girl on February 9, 1948, to Dorothy Mae (Jahnke) Hughes and Earl C. Hughes in Waco, TX. She was raised in her early years by her mom and her Jahnke grandparents on a cotton and cattle farm near Mart, TX. She loved all of her animals and the many relatives and girl cousins and the great adventures they had. Trust me, she remembered all of them! It is here that she developed her love of reading and dreaming. A new adventure started at the age of 8 when her mom remarried to Robert “Hutch” Hutchinson, and they moved to Northwestern Ohio. Here is when she eventually became the big sister to brothers Mike, Mark, and Eric. She graduated from Anthony Wayne High School where she polished her typing and shorthand skills and then worked as a secretary in California, Texas & Kentucky. In 1969, she returned home and worked at Washington Distributors. There she met Nancy Craft and they shared an apartment on the South end. This is where I got introduced to my future wife. We had good times, but she knew I needed a lot of work. We married on June 24, 1973, and the rest is history. I truly miss her. She continued her love of training and taught office computer applications at Penta County, Owens Tech, the UAW Chrysler training center, and Wayman Palmer YMCA. Later, she became an independent contractor and worked at many plants and businesses in the Toledo area. She taught night classes to adults as well. If you met her, you didn’t forget her, and she remembered you. We both retired in April 2011, and unfortunately her long and strong fight against metastatic breast cancer started in 2013. She appreciated all the encouragement and support she received from friends, doctors, and the other medical professionals. She passed away under the care of hospice on December 28, 2021, at Swanton Valley Rehab. I am thankful to them for the excellent care they provided. Laura is survived by me, her husband Rich; brothers, Mike, Mark (Cindy), & Eric (Jenny) Hutchinson; sisters- in- law Sue (Jim) Addis and Rosie Chechak ; nieces and nephews Sam, Jack, Hayley, & Sydney Hutchinson, Willow Addis, Elizabeth, and Kevin Chechak. Per her request, Laura was cremated and there will not be a service. Tributes may be made to Cherry Street Mission, Fulton Co Animal shelter or donors’ choice. Sleep peacefully darlin. Rich
