It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Larry Lee Hinz, age 77, of Delta, Ohio.
He was born to Franklin and Phyllis (Kamper) Hinz of Toledo on June 11th, 1949. He attended Springfield High School and Penta County Career Center graduating class of 1967. He completed four years at the Carpenter Apprentice School in Toledo and became a journeyman carpenter for the union before becoming an independent contractor.
Larry spent his career building homes and businesses, remodeling rental properties and tinkering on things in his garage. He was especially proud of the remodeling of two buildings in Delta where he and his wife, Julie, opened their shop "Hinz Haus Antiques" in 2002 and continued to operate for over 15 years. He never really retired from those things he was so passionate about.
Larry and Julie shared many memories together of traveling the USA, The Caribbean, Mexico and finally Europe where they visited Italy, Greece, Turkey and Egypt and road camels with friends on the sands of the Pyramids of Giza. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and mostly meeting up with many high school buddies each month at their favorite lunch spot in Swanton, Loma Linda. He loved all his nieces and nephews dearly, some of which he mentored into the carpenter trade. He cherished all his grandchildren while enjoying stories of their daily lives.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering strength and the countless lives he touched throughout the years. His generosity and caring nature gave him the nickname of "Carebear" which he wore proudly.
He married Julie (Dorr) Hinz of Toledo on October 1st, 1993, and they celebrated 33 years together before his passing. He is survived by his four children, Rachel (Joel) Hood, Carrie (Ed) Sobczak, Kelly (Todd) Isaacson, and Larry D. (Clare) Hinz; his grandchildren, Emma, Jackson, Riley, Spencer, Jack, and Audree, as well as his brothers, Doc (Gail) Hinz and Richard (Debbie) Hinz. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Hinz.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff from Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the amazing care they provided for Larry. They are truly wonderful.
There will be a Celebration of Larry's Life held at The Buehner Center at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark, 5240 Wilkins Road, Whitehouse, OH on Friday, December 11, 2026. Open house for family and friends from 2 - 8 pm.
