Kathleen M. (Golaszewski) Harpel, known for her giving, outgoing and sociable personality, passed away May 7, 2024, at Hospice of NW Ohio Ebeid Center at the age of 86. Born August 16, 1937, to Valentine & Helen Golaszewski she attended St. Hedwigs' elementary school and was graduate of Central Catholic High School class of 1955. She met her husband Bob on a blind date in 1956 and two years later, in 1958, after he graduated from college, they wed.
She always loved caring for people and in her junior year of high school was a volunteer candy stripe, which lead to a career in nursing. After getting her nursing license in 1973, she worked at Mercy Hospital ER department nights for more than 20 years. After retiring from Mercy, she worked at many nursing home facilities and later volunteered at Hospice of NW Ohio. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for more than 40 yrs, making friendships that would last that long.
She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, knitting, crochet and ceramics. Each grandchild & great grandchild got a handmade quilt. She would make personalized Halloween costumes, barbie doll clothes and holiday decorations, which continue to be still in the family.
In 1978 they joined Heatherdowns Country Club where she enjoyed golfing in two leagues, a women's nine hole and a couple’s league. She taught children's vacation bible study at St. Petri's church for many years. They loved traveling. In the early years family vacations to Myrtle Beach every year, then later they would take the grandkids up to the Irish Hills renting cabins for the summer. They took many cruises visiting, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Mexico, and Alaska just to name a few. Her last trip was down to Florida this past Dec. to visit her granddaughter and great grandchildren, I am so happy she made that trip.
She is survived by her daughters Cindi (John) Wurzell and Chris Lyons. Four grandchildren, Robb & Mike (Andrea) Potts, Colleen (Robert) Knight and Elizabeth (Chris) Massingill and 5 great grandchildren, Kaden, Emma, Emilia, Willow and Ridge. Brother David & (Rosemarie) Golaszewski.
She is proceeded in death by her husband of almost 65 years Bob.
The family would like to extend a big thank you to the Ebeid Center for their deepest kindness and compassion during the past month. Also thank you to the staff and her friends at Waterford Retirement for helping this last year since Bob has been gone. Memorial service will be held in the future.
