Joyce M. Manthey

Joyce M. Manthey, age 92, of Lenoir City, TN, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, at her daughter’s home, in Ohio. Joyce was a stay-at-home mother until her children were older, when she entered nursing school. She was the first nurse to work in the radiation therapy department, at Harper Hospital in Detroit, MI. Joyce enjoyed getting her hands dirty with flower gardening, quilting and crocheting. She was still mowing her lawn at age 90.

Joyce was born on September 13, 1931, in Ira Township, Michigan, the daughter of Louis and Gertrude (Smith) Bourlier. Joyce grew up in Fair Haven, Michigan, before moving to Wyandotte, Michigan, at age 10. She lived in Wyandotte until moving to Au Gres, Michigan, after retirement.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Denise Gardner and Gayle McKeethan; sons, Randy (Shella) and Ronald Manthey; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, and son, Edward Manthey.

Cremation has been entrusted by the Cremation Society of Toledo. Burial will take place at Sims Township cemetery, in Au Gres, Michigan.
