Joyce Elvira Clark

March 1, 1938 — May 10, 2022

Joyce Elvira McQueen Clark was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world on May 10, 2022 at the age of 84. Joyce was born on March 1, 1938 in Ecorse, Michigan to Angus and Nellie (Moor) McQueen. She moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1951 where she immediately picked up a paper route and started Scott High School at the age 13. A funny story she loved to tell was about how swimming was required in high school. She could not swim well yet, and Joyce pulled her teacher into the pool with her off the deep end diving board. This same teacher wrote in her yearbook “For some reason, I’ll never forget you Joyce!” She then moved to Devilbiss High School and graduated in 1955 at 17 years old. She attended Ohio State for one year in 1959-1960 taking 17 credit hours. During school, she worked at Mershon Auditorium and told the story of when she met Eleanor Roosevelt. Joyce was the chairman for her dorm and led the dorm's display for homecoming. She drew up the idea, and their dorm made it and won an award. She came back home to Toledo to work at Owens-Illinois as secretary to William Recknagel. Joyce stayed home between 1962 - 1979 to raise her four children and worked at State Farm Insurance after she returned back to work. She loved to sew, paint, refinish furniture, typing, shorthand, crafts of all kinds, knitting, flowers, plants and painted numerous small murals around Toledo. In her later years, she enjoyed both the art classes and the people at The Victory Center. She always had ideas and could find sketches all around her home on any and every scrap piece of paper. Joyce Clark's beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Holly (Steve) Shoemaker, Cory Clark, Scott (Stacy) Clark. Her grandchildren; Jordan Clark, Gwyneth, Norah and Mae Shoemaker, will remember her goofiness and laughter. Joyce was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Murray McQueen and her daughter Jody Clark. We believe she is smiling and walking hand in hand with Jody in a beautiful garden. Burial will follow later this summer at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of a funeral service, the family wants to celebrate the joy that Joyce brought, with a celebration of life in Toledo, Ohio. Date to be shared at a later time. A memorial website has been set up to accept donations and to learn more about Joyce’s Celebration of Life. https://everloved.com/life-of/joyce-clark-toledo-oh/ Joyce brought fun, love and warmth to all she met, please always remember to be kind to others, and spread joy and kindness wherever you go.
