Johnny L. Smith

February 23, 1948 — May 7, 2026

On May 7, 2026, Johnny Lee Smith went to meet those who had gone before him: his parents Bernie and Gertie, his son Marion Scott Smith, eight brothers, and one sister - leaving one younger brother remaining.

Johnny, 78, and a beloved husband to his wife of 58 years, Evelyn, created a life filled with family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who know him. Being a strong provider and protector for those he loved, he appeared to be quite cantankerous at times; but it was always his steadfast, unwavering, and uncompromising devotion to his family and friends which exuded from deep within to protect those he held dearest. With all his heart he loved and protected his family.

Johnny, a devoted family man, had three children, Johnnie (Sylvia) from Ohio, Marion Scott (deceased), and Sherri (Rick deceased) from Alabama. He had nine grandchildren, some which played vital role in rearing: Brandy (Mike) from Louisiana, Ryan from Tennessee, Tony from Ohio, Dean (Mel) from Ohio, Aaron (Natalie) from North Carolina, Zachary (Davilyn) from Hawaii, Kursten (Joshua) from Alabama, Jacob (Kahli) from Ohio, and Esperanza from Ohio. Lastly, he had twelve great-grandchildren that he adored and spoiled as often as he could.

Johnny worked at Eveready for thirty years. After his time at Eveready, he worked at Crown Battery for seventeen years before retiring. During his working years he was often revered as a hard and dedicated worker. During retirement, he enjoyed sitting outside on the porch and deck he built with his wife. He loved woodworking in his garage, and he enjoyed gardening both vegetables and flowers. He also spent as much time as he could with his children and grandchildren.

Johnny, being a private man, decided to hold no services after his passing.
