John J. Zapiecki

John Joseph Zapiecki, born June 11, 1936, to the late Sylvester and Clara (Kwapich) Zapiecki in Toledo, OH, passed away on July 27, 2022 at the age of 86. He was surrounded by loved ones at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. John worked for the phone company beginning in high school until his retirement in 1992. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963. John married Deanna Zaborowski in 1963. They had two daughters, Shelley Fofrich and Karen Badyna. They enjoyed 30 years together until her death in 1992. John married Catherine Lewis in 1997 and they enjoyed 24 years together. John was a proud veteran and loved recounting the details of the ship on which he served and the many places he visited. He had a passion for technology as an adaptor of the personal computer in the 1980’s. He loved sharing stories of the Navy or technology with anyone who would lend an ear. John was devoted to his family and friends. To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving wife, Catherine; two daughters, Shelley Fofrich and Karen Badyna; grandson, Christopher (Silvia) Fofrich; two stepdaughters, Cynthia (David) Mazaczewski and Laura (Michael) Roberts; five step grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and special friend Clif Falls. In accordance to John’s wishes, cremation will take place and no service will be held.
