Johnnie Tye Jr. rode off into the sunset on October 28, 2021. He was born in Jellico, TN, on July 24, 1946, the youngest of four sons to the Rev. John S. & Etha (Jones) Tye, His family moved to Toledo, where he became a 1964 graduate of Whitmer High School. He met and married Janice Sue Lowe, and they had 3 children, (Greg, Kim & Tracy). They divorced after 11 years and neither remarried. John was a talented tool and die maker at Toledo Molding and Die for nearly 30 years. Later he worked as a project estimator for Seagate and Therma Twin. John had 7 grandchildren and enjoyed his role as Papaw. He was funny, smooth talking, and as clever as they come. He won dozens of trophies for trap shooting, although one of his favorite pastimes was messing with people who were trying to scam him, He also enjoyed his special finds on Market Search. He was a man of a thousand stories and waitresses across the area will find their careers less exciting from now on. John was one of a kind. A true original. His smile was contagious and he knew just how to make you laugh. He was easy to like but was never afraid to speak his truth. John enjoyed spending time in his garage with his dog, Remy, and talking and singing old country songs with his grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Clarence, Joe, and Clayton Tye, grandson Jacob Connors, and former wife Janice Sue (Lowe) Tye. He is survived by his children, Greg (Andi) Tye, Kim (Mike) Connors, Tracy Tye, and his 6 grandchildren; Christopher, Taylor, Zachary, Noah, Spencer & Lillie. John did not want a funeral, it wouldn’t match his style anyway. Instead, he would want you to remember the good times you had with him. His family will hold a private memorial service.
