John Edward Smalley

John “LJ” Edward Smalley, 43, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on November 5th, 2022, very unexpectedly after a few undiagnosed mental health crises. John was born in Toledo on August 20th, 1979, to Edward C. Smalley Jr., who precedes him in death and Bonnie (Fuller) Stilwell of Norwalk, Ohio. John grew up in east Toledo but also, spent a large amount of his childhood in south Toledo with his paternal grandmother, Margaret Smalley who also precedes him death.

John went to Birmingham and East Side Central Elementary School, East Toledo Junior High, and Waite High School. He held various types of jobs, including his own cleaning and removal business for a brief time, but found his true passion at Royalty Mooney & Moses professionally installing insulation and other building products. He had many hobbies and interests which included making and listening to music, especially ICP, going to concerts and comedy shows, comic books including Comic-Con’s, camping, his dog Chewy and more than anything else spending time with and taking care of his family whom he loved so very much.

John leaves behind the love of his life, wife, Brittani (Jennings) Smalley; daughter, Cecilia Nieman; and son, Phoenix Smalley. He is also survived by sister, Kimberley (Smalley) Jurski; brother, Edward “Chuck” Charles Smalley III; many nieces and nephews including a great nephew; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

He will be most remembered for his sense of humor and his laugh. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
