John Robert Malkoski Sr. passed away on September 17, 2023 in Ebeid Hospice surrounded by family members.
John was born February 19, 1949 to Leon and Ruth (Dunmore) Malkoski in Phoenixville, PA as one of four children. He graduated from Bishop Luers High school (Fort Wayne, IN) in 1967 and University of St. Francis (IN) in 1971.
John spent his 41-year career in the insurance industry, starting with Motorists Mutual Insurance Company in 1972 and retiring from German Mutual Insurance Company in 2013 as Vice President of Claims. He started in Cleveland and made stops in Fremont and Columbus before settling in Toledo for the majority of his career. He was a member of the Property Loss Research Bureau and the Toledo Claims Association. After he retired from the insurance industry, he turned his life-long love of baseball into a part-time job working at the Toledo Mud Hens as an Official Scorer for the International League for seven years. He was a member of St. Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Ruth and his brother Mark.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Jones-Schuele), sister Marjorie (Malkoski) Brown of San Antonio, TX, brother Paul (Mim) of Aurora, CO, son John Jr. (Diane) of Toledo, daughter Julie (Tim) Robichaux of Bothell, WA, stepson Craig (Andrea) Schuele of Toledo, and grandchildren John III (Jack) of Omaha, NE, Ian, William, Step-grandchildren Ezekiel of Tempe, AZ, Michaela, Gabriel, Hannah, Nathanael, Jacob and Leah, the mother of his children Bobbie Kanney of St. Henry, OH and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakes of Sylvania and Ebeid Hospice for their loving care.
The family will have a private memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, John has asked for donations to be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation (parkinson.org) or University of St. Francis (giving.sf.edu).
