Hewitt, John A.Age 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born on August 20, 1921 to Leo Gertrude (Freeman) Hewitt of Ypsilanti, MI. He honorably served for the United States Marine Corps for 4 years during WW II, stationed in Guadalcanal. On November 13, 1948 he married Mona Rice, his wife of 63 years, at Saint John Catholic Church. John started his career as a butcher at East Gate Market in Ypsilanti and eventually became a carpenter by trade. In 1953, he built the home they lived in for the past 58 years. John enjoyed many pastimes during his life including, deer hunting, cutting firewood and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. His survivors include his wife, Mona (Rice) Hewitt of Ypsilanti; a daughter Jacqueline Willett of Leesburg, FL and a son Jeffery Hewitt of Adrian, MI. Sisters include; Donna Johnson Joan Riddle and 1 brother Dennis (Barb) Hewitt. Grandchildren; Charles Wm. (Breanne) Sinkule IV of Ypsilanti, MI, Nicolas Hewitt, Michael Hewitt Mariel Hewitt all of Saline, MI. Funeral services will be held at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. visitation is from 1-2 p.m. On Wednesday, December 7, 2011 burial services will be performed at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. 4200 Belford Rd.
