(Jack) John Robert Gulvas, lived 95 wonderful years full of love, generosity, enthusiasm, and kindness. On Easter, March 31st, with his children beside him, he moved on to be with the love of his life Donna (Saam) Gulvas, their son, Michael Gulvas, and his grandson, Joshua Mark Gulvas.
As a young man growing up during the Great Depression he developed resilience, resourcefulness, and an amazing work ethic. He passed these gifts on to his children. Jack, a graduate of Macomber High School, worked 42 years at Doehler-Jarvis die casting starting as an apprentice die maker and retiring as the Chief Engineer. He was active in community affairs, working on the Spencer Township Zoning Board and Land Use Committee until his final days.
As a young man, he was gifted with athleticism that allowed him to flourish in basketball, football, softball, and golfing. These years crafted some amazing memories and special friendships. He spent time with his children supporting their sports endeavors, attending countless basketball games, wrestling matches, and horse shows.
He was an avid bow hunter and helped start Mudjaw Bowman. A lover of nature, Jack volunteered at Nature's Nursery and created The Farm with a pond, woods, and meadows. Even in the city the family always had a collection of critters like raccoons, and crows He raised 10 generations of yellow Labrador retrievers. In retirement he became the Bird Man of Eber Road, known for raising exotic waterfowl, pheasants, emus, and peacocks.
His surviving family includes his son, Rand Gulvas, his daughter Leslie Gulvas, nine grandchildren, and ten
great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at The Christian Fellowship Church, 6711 Pilliod Rd, Holland, OH, 43528. In lieu of flowers Jack would have preferred donations in his name to Natures Nursery, or an animal rescue service of your choice.
