John (Jack) Vernon Gates, age 82, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord, September 2, 2020 in Sylvania, Ohio. Jack was born October 31, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio to John W. and Juanita (Williams) Gates. Jack attended St. Paul Bible College in Minnesota and graduated from Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio with degrees in Psychology and Theology. Jack was a minister, serving churches in Mt. Pleasant, MI for five years, and ten years in Sylvania, Ohio. The remainder of his ministry was served as Chaplain for John Knox Village in Orange City, FL. Retiring in 2008, Jack and his wife, Lois, then moved to Indiana. During these years (never one to actually retire) he worked as a lifeguard for the Fishers YMCA and worked for the State Department of Corrections, driving a bus for troubled teens, always sharing the love of the Lord with everyone he met. Jack was active in his church, singing in the choir, initiating and participating in a program for several nursing homes. He completely retired when his Parkinson’s disease progressed. Jack will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Lois (King) Gates, five daughters, Robin (Kevin) Morgan, Melody (Don) Palmer, Linda Denmead, Billy Denmead, Lisa (Matthew) Cook, Leslie (Chad) Anderson, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his brother Don (Roxie) Gates, and sister Nita (Claude) LeMarr. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Juanita Gates, his brother, Dr. William Gates, and an infant grandson, Matthew Lee Morgan. Jack’s memorial service will be held on September 26, 2020 at 1:00pm at Hope Bible Fellowship, 2350 Conner St., Noblesville, IN 46061.
