John B Charney

John B. Charney, 64, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday December 10, 2010 after a battle with cancer that was much too short. He was born August 14, 1946 and is survived by his loving wife, Penny, daughter Robyn (Patrick) Sigler, sons John (Tonya) Charney and Scott (Roda) Charney, stepchildren Diana (Steve) Lingle, Dana (Garret) Corneles and Ron Huskins, grandchildren Sheryl, Tyler, Jacob and Johnny, great grandchild Taylor, and several step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Charney, Rosie (Melvin) Vogel, Joanne (Ted) Arvanitis and Sally (Don) Albain, his brother Ron Charney, and long time friends Jack Emert and Gordy Roberts. John was preceded in death by his father, John Charney, and his mother Geraldine Charney.John served proudly in the United States Navy for 4 years, and was stationed on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War. He worked at AP Parts Manufacturing in Toledo, OH for many years until his retirement, and was a member of the UAW Local 14.Anyone who knew John knew that he was a very kind and caring person who loved his family tremendously! He was very, very proud of his children and you could see a sparkle in his eyes every time he looked at one of them. He was a devoted grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren. And he cared so much for his wife, Penny, who had been a part of his life for over 30 years.John was a very good cook, and a connoisseur of pickles. He was famous locally for his hot pickles, which were sought out by everyone, every year! Everything he made was loaded with love, including his meatball sandwiches. Another thing John was well known for was his creativity and his talent for creating crafts for all occasions. His string Easter baskets, snowmen, Santa Clauses, clowns, and elephants were sold throughout the Toledo area for many years.John shared a passion for metal detecting and coin collecting with his father, which he passed on to his children and his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, and you could bet hed be out mushroom hunting every year! He was also an avid sports fan who loved the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.John was loved by so many friends and family members and will be dearly missed.A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Sylvania Moose Lodge at 6072 North Main St. in Sylvania, OH from 5 pm 9 pm on Friday December 17th. Anyone who knew John is welcome to come and celebrate his life and reminisce about the many, many wonderful things he was a part of and the lives he touched throughout his life.The family would like to thank Promedica Hospice, especially Joanne DeLong, for their compassionate caring in this difficult time. They were extremely supportive and helped comfort John and the family in his final days. Online condolences may be shared below:
