John C. Bowlander, Sr., age 69 of Genoa, Ohio, passed away suddenly February 14, 2024.
John loved his family deeply. Second to his family, as a lifelong farmer, he enjoyed caring for the animal farm he created, with his wife Melissa, where schools and families come on field trips. He especially loved to talk about “his” Purple Martins to anyone who would listen.. He followed their migration to Brazil in Mid-August and back each Spring. He could be found in his quiet time cleaning the nests and checking on the young babies & fledglings.
John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Melissa; son, John Jr. & his wife Sadee; and daughter, Alexandria & her boyfriend, Josh. He is also survived by many family and friends.
Along with farming, John worked for 30 years for BP Oil Company retiring in 2018. Prior to that, he worked for REA Express and Conrail as a Conductor/ Brakeman.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no public service. A small, private family memorial will be held on the 6th generation family farm where he lived and also grew up on, at a later date.
If anyone wishes to make an expression of sympathy, please consider donating to Toledo’s PET Bull Project., in his honor.
