Joan (Paxton) Silberhorn of Toledo, Ohio passed away on June 30th, 2021 at the age of 86. The eldest of 6 children, she was a 1953 graduate of Whitmer High School where she participated in various sports as well as the “Whitmer Circus” each year – which was very popular in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s. Mom was a sports enthusiast throughout her life, supporting her 5 children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. In addition to being a full time loving mom and expert housekeeper, Joan assisted her then husband, Carl J. Silberhorn of 42 years with the Silberhorn Custom Window Fashions family business. She was also a prominent figure within the fine dining industry of Toledo, working at restaurants such as Wittenberg’s, Someplace Else and Ricardo’s. Mom’s customers seemed to always follow her wherever she landed. After retiring from 40 plus years in the restaurant industry, she then cared for children full-time and developed great relationships with those families. Mom was an excellent cook, creating some of the best Italian dishes and soups which the family swears had healing powers. Her meals are still talked about often. Some of her other hobbies included staying fit, laying in the sun, and scrap booking articles involving family and close family friends. During March of 2021 mom had a fall which required surgery. From that point she could not overcome the multiple complications that ensued post surgery. Joan’s sense of humor and laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and O.J. Paxton along with her brothers, William and James Paxton. She is survived by her brothers, Robert (Judy dec.) and Orley (Sheila) Paxton and sister, Sharon (Paxton) Perrotti. She is also survived by her children, Sharon Kay (Silberhorn) Howard, Paul Silberhorn, Nicholas Silberhorn (Tammy), Michael Silberhorn, Roger (Lisa) Silberhorn; along with 8 grandchildren, Zachary, Mitchell, Nolan, Sawyer (Taylor), Carli, Jack, Lacy, Katy; and 2 great-grandchildren Kynlie and Kyler. Our family would like to give special thanks to her dear friends, Tammy, Carol, Marlene, Chris, Ann, Barb, Sharon, Mamie, Betty, and Tammy. And also a special thank you to Miss Stephanie at Heartland Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center. We ask that if you would like to make donations in Joan’s memory, please consider the Toledo Humane Society. Joan’s immediate family held a private family gathering in her memory.
