Joan was employed at Parkview hospital as a material manager when the hospital closed. Prior to this , Joan worked as a Central Service manager at Riverside Hospital in Toledo. Joan was an accomplished seamstress and loved putting her daughters in matching outfits when they were young. Joan was also a Girl Scout leader with Mrs. Quigly in Rossford. When she resided in Perrysburg, Joan was on the condominium board of directors. When Joan was in Maumee she was involved in the Red Hat Society with her best friend, Lois Scwartz. Lois and Joan made greeting cards and stuffed bears for charity. Lois was my mom's constant navigation person as they drove to Grand Rapids, Port Clinton, and Findlay for high tea. Lois brought Joan back to life after Daniel passed. Amy bought her a home in Maumee where she loved her flowers and yard. Christina was also her roommate while she attended graduate school.

Joan would say her legacy was one of service. Joan studied to be a nun but decided on an LPN and role as a mother. With her husband they visited every state except Alaska. Joan loved travel, RVing, camping, canoeing, fishing and hunting. Visiting National Parks was a joy in her life that she never forgot. Due to health reasons, she moved into the Manor of Perrysburg. While living in the facility, Lamont Ben Covington was her protector and source of humor. Joan was a member of Saint John XXIII.
