Jerry D. Gilley

Jerry Gilley, 65, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on October 14, 2015. He was surrounded by the love and light of his family, after battling an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-seven years, Sharon Gilley. He is survived by his son, Zachary, and many sisters. He served his country as a Lance Corporal and a machine gunner of the United States Marine Corps, having fought in the Vietnam War in 1968-70, and earned a National Defense Service Medal in addition to a Citation for Uncommon Valor during his tour. He continued to serve as a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having acted as Post Commander and Quartermaster of Maumee Valley VFW post 2510 in East Toledo, and until recently as a Trustee of Commodore Perry VFW 3338. He left behind, in addition to his family, many friends who held him in the highest regard and utmost respect. He touched many lives. If in need, his hand would be the first into his pocket or to offer the very shirt off his back. He was quick to laugh, and if you were fortunate enough to gain his friendship and trust, there is nothing that he wouldnt do to help if you were in need. There will be a semi-private memorial service for both him and his recently departed wife, Sharon, at the Commodore Perry VFW 3338. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Judes Research Hospital, Cherry Street Mission, and Toledo Animal Shelter Association.
