Jeanne F. Schell

March 25, 1937 — July 20, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Jeanne Frances (McBride) Schell. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the Virginia Clifford Hospice Center in Toledo, OH, surrounded by family, wrapped in love and memories. She was 88 years old.

Jeanne was born on March 25, 1937 in Dayton Ohio to Thomas C. and Alverda (Rosenkranz) McBride. She attended St. James Elementary School and Patterson Co-Op High School in Dayton, Ohio. Jeanne graduated from Indiana University with a Masters Degree in Nursing. She had a long and vibrant career, from Howard Community Hospital, Kokomo, IN; St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood, IN; and teaching at Indiana Central University in Indianapolis, IN. Moving south she pursued her career in Greenville, SC; Charleston, SC; Atlanta, GA; and New Orleans, LA. She completed her career in Toledo, OH.

Jeanne was married on January 16, 1953 to her high school sweetheart, Donald G. Schell in Dayton, OH. They lived, and loved, raising a happy family of 4 children for 46, years until his death in 1999. She later met her domestic partner, Timothy Brown, and spent 18 years together until his passing in 2023.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas McBride and Alverda (Rosenkranz) McBride Brooks; son, Robert Shell; husband, Donald Schell; and partner, Timothy Brown.

Jeanne is survived by her remaining children, Ronald (Sheilah), Suzan (Ray) Hazen, and Christopher. She dearly loved and is survived by her 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Along with Jeanne’s love of family and nursing was her love of hockey. She was an avid Toledo Storm fan, working in the Storm office upon her retirement from nursing. Jeanne then became totally devoted to the Toledo Walleye Hockey Team. She took great joy in their past winning season and was extremely proud of her “boys”. The friends she made among the two teams and her fan family brought her much happiness.

Jeanne was also an advocate for homeless cats, adopting many throughout her life. In lieu of flowers she request donations to your local cat shelter or humane society be made…. or adopt a cat in need!

She did not wish for a viewing nor formal funeral. Her only desire was for family and friends to attend her Memorial Mass which will be on Tuesday, July 29th, 10:30 a.m. The Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway St, Maumee, OH 43537.

We will miss her more than words can express, but we are grateful for every moment we had with her. Thank you to everyone who loved her well.
