James Rolon

January 13, 1939 — May 23, 2025

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of James "Jimbo" Rolon, 86, on May 23 2025. Known also as "Jim", "Big Jimmy", "Pop Pop", and "Popeye", he was a special father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and more.

James was born on January 13, 1939, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, to Jose and Maria Felipa. He was the eighth of nine children. He came to the United States as a young boy with his mother and sisters, residing in the Bronx, NY. His early career was as a commercial artist, working for an advertising agency in New York City. Later in life he moved to New Windsor, NY, where he was employed at, and retired from, the New Windsor Water Dept.

James married Judith Porter in 1969, and together they had two boys, James Jr, and Jonathan. They divorced, and he remained in New Windsor until 2017, when he moved to the Toledo, Ohio area to be near his son James Jr, and granddaughter Nichole.

James loved music and played guitar in his early years. He was very creative and enjoyed making things on his computer. He also loved puzzles, especially crosswords. He rarely missed his favorite television show, Jeopardy. He had a fondness for a "nice hot cup of coffee", or tea in his later years, and had quite the sweet tooth. He was a man of faith, raised Catholic, and prayed regularly for the well-being of his family and friends, all of whom were deeply adored by him.

He spent his last three years at Landings of Oregon Senior Living, in Oregon, Ohio, where he was lovingly known as "Jimbo". During this time, he truly came out of his shell -- becoming more social, forming new friendships, and embracing life with a renewed sense of joy. Those final years were arguably His happiest in quite some time, and we extend our eternal gratitude to the entire staff at Landings, who surrounded Jimbo with love and support beyond expectation.

He was preceded in death by his son Jonathan (2024); his parents; three brothers -- Armondo, Angelo, and Guillermo; four sisters -- Alicia, Maria Isabela, Olga, and Margarita; two nieces -- Rosalie and Sonia; and a nephew, Tony.

He is survived by his sister Lydia; son James Jr; bonus daughter Terri; granddaughter Nichole (Eric) Douglas; great-grandson Jackson; daughter-in-law Jeni (Jonathan) Rolon; grandsons Stephen and Jonathan; 13 nieces and nephews; and many great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Though his physical journey has ended, his presence lives on in the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely. Rest peacefully dear Pops. You are cherished, remembered, and loved beyond measure.
